About Heather

When I was a teenager, I was convinced I was going to be the next Oprah–I wrote for and then became editor-in-chief of my school newspaper. I was voted “Most Likely to Have Her Own Talk Show” in high school. I had my college picked out and thought I had it all figured out…until God called me to youth ministry.

I graduated from Southwest Baptist University in 2012 with a BS in Christian Ministry with an emphasis in Youth and a minor in Theology. I have over 8 years of experience in youth ministry. Currently I serve as the Middle School Youth Director at a fantastic church in Indianapolis, and having been there 5 years and plan to be many more.

I began blogging when I got my first director position at the tender age of 20, so if you do some digging you’ll see some nonsense (and growth).

Other facts about me: I’m an amateur social advocate, but learning. I’m a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. I love coffee, red wine, and iced tea. I am super-close to my mom and sister, and talk to them about everything. I’m OBSESSED with personality tests and how to use them as catalysts in both my leadership and my personal mental health. I’m marrying my best friend in October, a tender man named PJ who loves me and my one-eyed cat dearly.

I blog about youth ministry, life as a Millennial in the Christian church, and about lessons I’m learning as a lover of Christ. As a disclaimer, what I post on my blog is not necessarily the views of my congregation or my denomination. I love both dearly, I just don’t speak for them. :)

Thanks for reading!

With love,

  2. Heather, I’ve just found your blog while browsing the web looking for great women who can inspire me on my new journey, since I am now guiding a group of girls in my church. Let me tell you that you are really inspiring! Thank you for sending out God’s words through your blog, May God bless you, and thank you for inspiring me and reminding me that we are not too young to take this charge. 1. Hi Claudia! Thanks for the kind words. God has really given me a passion, and I’m glad that I can help others. Let me know if you need anything! I might be able to direct you to some resources or others who know wayyyyy more than I do! Blessings to Mexico! :)

  3. First of all, thank you.
Thank you for investing in youth through youth-ministers, by blogging about your experiences on Heather Lea Campbell.

Please know how incredible this is. And be encouraged to keep going.

I hope and pray that even more youth-pastors will be inspired, find solutions to their struggles, will be encouraged not to stop serving, and be inspired to grow their gifts.

We recognize that these are incredible times to live in, where technology allows youth-pastors around the world to encourage each other. As for ourselves, we use technology to reach out to youth globally as well.

For the past five years, we’ve been developing the world’s first videogame that takes kids through the Bible from beginning to end. Our hope is to increase the love for God’s Word amongst kids.

We dream to see kids go through the Bible together, having fun as they become part of David’s army, spend time in the fish as Jonah, and play level after level, leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection.

In order to steward this immense project well, we’re building relationships with youths pastors like you. We like to ask your input by allowing you to look behind the scenes, have your kids/families play demo game levels before they go public, etc. You may also recommend a few people you think would be of interest.

Additionally, we can provide you with plenty of interesting “blog-food” (concept art, images, etc) if you feel that this could benefit your subscribers.

If you’d like more information, shoot me a quick reply to the email address below.
