One of my mottos is:
“Never complain about something that you are not actively working to change.”What does this mean?
Don’t complain about you being fat if you don’t eat healthy or work out.
Don’t complain about your coworker unless you’ve talked to him/her or your supervisor.
Don’t complain about political leaders unless you’ve voted and have written letters to your leaders.
Just don’t complain unless you’re doing something about it.
Why is this important?
Because otherwise, you’re just wasting your breath.
Because you’re getting escalated about something (a) you don’t have to be (b) you have no control over. Either way, it’s frustrating.
Because, frankly, it’s annoying for people who have to listen to you complain.
And to Jesus Juke you, there are better usages of our time, if you get my drift.
I just had this conversation with a youth worker from another town. He was complaining to a group of us about his pay, and when I asked him if he’d talked to his pastor / staff committee about a raise, he gave me a blank look.
:(
For sure. There’s a youth pastor I’m acquainted with who complains about the same volunteer weekly. And weekly, I ask him if he’s talked to that volunteer or even his senior pastor about it (who, by the way, has NO CLUE). If it’s really causing you that much heartache, just DO something about it!
